Fiber in Metal Tube

Fiber in Metal Tubes for OPGW/OPPC

Stainless Steel with or without Aluminum

Fiber in Metal Tubes (FIMT) is designed as loose-tube construction to protect the integrated optical fibers against mechanical stress, hydrogen, and other environmental influences to provide maximum optical lifetime for their application. Due to full metallic armor protection, FIMT for OPGW and OPPC cables offer the best mechanical protection in combination with the highest density, enabling the smallest cable designs. The tube is filled with a thixotropic gel, with or without hydrogen-absorbing additives, and fully complies with EN60794-2-22 method F5. Common fiber types used for this construction include ITU-T G.652.D, ITU-T G.657.A1, and ITU-T G.655.

Fiber in Metal Tubes for Subsea

Steel Tube with or without sheathing

Fiber in Metal Tubes (FIMT) is designed as loose-tube construction to protect the integrated optical fibers against mechanical stress, hydrogen, and other environmental influences to provide maximum optical lifetime for their application. The high-density, tubular design creates excellent crush resistance. Continuous lengths up to 50 km are feasible for outer diameters between 3.4 and 4 mm (without polymer), otherwise up to 25 km can be produced. The tube is filled with a thixotropic gel, with or without hydrogen-absorbing additives, and fully complies with EN60794-2-22 method F5. Common fiber types used for this construction include ITU-T G.652.D, ITU-T G.657.A1/A2, and ITU-T G.655.

Fiber in Metal Tubes for Umbilicals

Steel Tube with or without armoring and sheathing

Fiber in Metal Tubes (FIMT) is designed as loose-tube construction to protect the integrated optical fibers against mechanical stress, hydrogen, and other environmental influences to provide maximum optical lifetime for their application. The high-density, tubular design creates excellent crush resistance while enabling small bending radii. The tube is filled with a thixotropic gel, with or without hydrogen-absorbing additives, and fully complies with EN60794-2-22 method F5. Single and multimode fibers can be combined to allow combined data transmission and sensing. Common fiber types used for this construction include ITU-T G.652.D, ITU-T G.657.A1/A2/B3, ITU-T G.651.1 (OM1-OM5), or based on customer request.

Tailer Made Fiber Optic Products

Fiber in Metal Tubes are designed as a loose-tube construction, where one or multiple optical fibers are integrated in metal tubes. Material grade, dimensions, as well as optical fiber type and count can be freely chosen by the client, enabling the highest flexibility and allowing a best-fit approach. Additional reinforcement and protection such as stranding wires, basalt, polymer extrusion, or tube layers can be selected based on the requirements. With market-leading fiber count and long continuous lengths, NBG strives to give the best support with proven quality, made in Austria, for over 25 years.
